Complete Restoration Inside and Out.
It was a great honor for Wasatch Railroad Contractors to restore the Southern 1200. This vintage Pullman Built Heavyweight Passenger cars is now a historic artifact in the new Museum of African American History and Culture (Smithsonian) in Washington, DC. The car now resides nearly 6 stories under ground just off of Constitution Avenue, only blocks from the White House. The Southern 1200 is also the largest artifact in the museum and the first artifact placed in the museum. In fact, the car was installed in the museum before the building even had a roof. It took two cranes with a lifting power of well over 1,000,000 lbs each to steady the car into position in the museum. We hope you enjoy the below images of the project and the completed project.
